September 2009
7 days
3,400 Miles
I was on an ALEC Education Task Force that was meeting right near the River Walk in downtown San Antonio, Texas. I was provided three days hotel stay, meals and $500 for airfare. I turned it into a seven day trip, I left on early on a Tuesday, and then returned on a Tuesday allowing me to buy a plane ticket and rent a car at the weekly rate for a total cost around $425 I only claimed 3 days so ALEC was very happy that I only spent about $340 of their money, about $160 less than they expected.
I rented the car visited the Alamo and then headed to Del Rio, Texas because I had heard it talked about in many songs and western movies. I then went to Big Bend National Park before heading on to Guadalupe Mountains then into New Mexico before heading back to San Antonio. I attended the conference, and left real early Sunday morning and headed to Brownville Texas visiting the other four Missions then to Port Isabel, then Padre Island before heading up to Port Arthur. Made it back to the airport about three hours before the plane took-off and headed home.
Drove a little more than 3,400 miles. Only cost to me was four days of car rental, food, and about 140 gallons of gas or less than $500.
